East Lancashire People First have helped many adults with learning disabilities to speak up for themselves. E.L.P.F supports families, carers and individuals to promote a person centered approach to the care and services members receive. E.L.P.F do not offer care or respite but promote peer mentoring support. We take part in the partnership boards, and work alongside many other services that provide activities for adults with LD.
E.L.P.F mission statement is “Striving to improve the lives of adults with learning disabilities”. We do this through showing our members that anything can be achieved. Our badge E.L.P.F, stands for East Lancashire People First, our members have looked at this and also come up with a new abbreviation, Everyone, Learning, Positively ,First . We also try to promote ways of dispelling any myths of adults with learning disabilities. Our customers who come to the shop have chance to talk to our members who volunteer there, we believe this builds bridges. We also know that this opens doors of communication and could be the first step into a usual unknown for some. Our members contribute to all activities E.L.P.F plan, we have regular committee meetings and planning of the drop ins. As we are run by adults with learning difficulties and have a prime location, the one stop shop which gives us a great space to plan, we can do this effectively and coherently involving all those who want to take part.
Sharing good practice throughout the work we do with other agencies stops any duplication of services and supports any community projects that our members can benefit from. At the One Stop Shop we have community boards and sign posting with information , Advice and Guidance. If you think that there are other groups that could be publicised through the one stop shop or our members please get in contact with us. We are all trying to work towards a better future.
